Abstract

Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) refers to differences in the degree of susceptibility to environmental influences, which can have positive and negative effects. One of the possible negative effects is emotional dysregulation (ED). On the other hand, one of the factors that can be related to emotional regulation is gaudiebility (set of modulators of enjoyment). Gaudiebility could be considered as a form of emotional regulation for positive emotions; however, to date the relationship with SPS and ED, which usually focuses on negative emotions, has not been explored. The objective of this research was to study the role of gaudiebility and SPS, as predictors of ED. A total of 1,040 university students participated and were administered, as a group, the gaudiebility evaluation scales, the SPS and the ED. The results of the regression analysis showed that the best positive predictor of the ED was the processed sensitivity dimension of the SPS (t= 14.48), while the best negative predictor was the concentration dimension of the gaudiebility (t = -10.31). A high level of SPS entails difficulties in regulating emotions, regardless of whether one has a high ability to enjoy, although the ED will be higher if the level of gaudiebility is low. Gaudiebility can be considered as a specific emotional regulator of enjoyment that shares elements with emotional regulation in a generic way.
