Instruments for the assessment of adult attachment in Spanish population: A systematic review

The aim of this study was to explore the instruments for the assessment of adult attachment designed or adapted for the Spanish population. To this end, a systematic review was carried out of publications that included studies on the design, validation, adaptation or psychometric analysis of measurement instruments for this purpose. After an exhaustive search, 12 research studies were selected which covered 8 instruments for assessment of adult attachment in the Spanish population. The properties of each of the tools were analyzed in terms of methodological quality and the specific aspects of attachment assessed. It is concluded that, although there are few current instruments that have been translated or validated with a Spanish sample most of them meet the quality criteria necessary to be considered instruments with good psychometric properties for the assessment of adult attachment. This review provides clues for the selection of the most appropriate tool in both clinical and research contexts.
