INJURIAS TRAUMATICAS DENTOALVEOLARES EN PACIENTES ATENDIDOS EN LA CLlNICA CES SABANETA (ANTIOQUIA, COLOMBIA), ENTRE 1992 Y 1995

Abstract

El propósito de este estudio fue analizar la incidencia de lesiones dentarias traumáticas y su distribución por sexo, edad, diagnóstico, época del año, causa y dientes comprometidos. La muestra costaba de 221 historias clínicas de pacientes que asistieron a la Clínica CES Sabaneta, en el área Metropolitana de Medellín, Colombia, entre 1992 y 1995. Más hombres (68.3%) que mujeres (31. 7%) sufrieron injurias traumáticas. El grupo etáreo entre O y 5 años mostró el mayor número de injurias (41.6%) y la causa más común fue caídas y golpes (58.8%). El diagnóstico más común fue fractura coronal no complicada (54.2%) para los tejidos dentales duros y la pulpa; la luxación lateral fue la injuria más común en el grupo de tejidos periodontales (22. 7%.). Estos resultados son importantes para mejorar las técnicas de recolección de datos en la historia clínica y para ampliar la comprensión de la epidemiología del trauma dental en Colombia. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of traumatic dental injuries and their distribution according to sex, age, diagnosis, period of time, cause and compromised teeth. The sample consisted of clinical records of 221 patients who were examined at the Dental Clinic at CES University, in the Metropolitan area of Medellin, Colombia, between 1992 and 1995. More males (68.3%) than females (31.7%) showed traumatic injuries. The group of age from 0 to 5 years showed the largest number of injuries (41.6%) and the leading cause was undetermined falls and blows (58.8%). The most common diagnosis was uncomplicated crown fracture (54.2%) for hard dental tissues and the pulp; lateral luxation was the most common injury in the periodontal tissues group (22.7%). These results are important for the improvement of data gathering techniques in the patients' record and to enhance the understanding of the epidemiology of dental trauma nationwide.
