The need to understand phenomena in depth, explore them from stakeholder perspectives, and identify emerging areas of practice and research has motivated the development of a wide range of methodologies for systematic reviews of qualitative evidence. One of the emerging designs is "The best-fit framework synthesis of qualitative research"; which is based on a "combined" approach of deductive and inductive methods of analysis. This design has been used successfully to conduct rapid reviews when answers are needed to make decisions about the best options for a health problem. The objective of this topic review article is to provide an approach to the characteristics of this design, its purposes, advantages and limitations, as well as the phases or stages involved in its use.
