Caring for mental health in pandemic from the tide theory: an experience of care

Introduction: suicide is one of the main causes of death worldwide and a public health problem. Among the causes that lead to suicide attempts is mainly depression; In times of the COVID-19 pandemic, depression increased considerably in adults. Care experience: a nursing situation that allowed the approach of a 53-year-old person who was admitted to a hospital in Medellín, Colombia, with level IV of complexity, secondary to attempted suicide due to ingestion of organophosphates; The approach was carried out from the perspective of Phil Barker's tidal theory, and the metaphor of water was implemented to apply the nursing care process. Conclusions: the tidal wave theory allows comprehensive guidance of nursing care for people admitted to emergency services due to suicide attempts, allowing a comprehensive view of the person in times of pandemic.
