The editorial presented below aims to evaluate the origins of sexual abuse as part of a sexist culture that has been evident in the world since its beginnings in Greece and Rome.
Sexual violence is a phenomenon that affects Colombian reality and has suffered increases during the time of the pandemic. In it, factors of family proximity between victims and perpetrators are influential and, according to penitentiary system figures, its incidence has not reflected a significant decrease, raising questions related to alternative forms of protection and the promotion of more effective educational campaigns.
The study presented below is developed as an approach to the phenomenon and intends to provide a general context of how this crime appears in the global context and in Colombia, as well as its relationship with gender bias.
